San Clemente, CA (February 23, 2012) – Taylor Paul is a legend. He is also the new editor-in-chief of SURFING Magazine. He is a legend because he surfs Maverick’s, once getting his arm ripped clean from its socket then taking five set waves on the head. He is a legend because he has traveled around the world, spending much time in Africa running from rebels bent on enlisting his good arm for their cause. He broke a woman’s heart in South Africa. And scrapped with Brazilians in Brazil because they didn’t want to give him their waves. He is a legend because he knows what elephant seals are saying. His current woman, whose heart he won’t break, is getting her graduate degree in marine biology with an emphasis in elephant seal communication.
And he is the new editor-in-chief of SURFING Magazine. He has always been interested in the media representation of surf, the thing he loves more than all others. He began his career writing his adventures with rebels and the broken-hearted before quickly moving to associate editor of SURFING before quickly moving to editor-in-chief. He has an expansive vision for what SURFING magazine should be. “It should tell stories,” he says. “It should be fun, young and inspirational. And we’ve got all the people and pieces in place to make that happen.” Taylor believes that flipping through the magazine and SURFING the website should be the most inspirational part of your month. Even more inspirational than making out with a super model. Definitely more inspirational than Glee.
SURFING Magazine publisher Tony Perez agrees, “Once again we promote within! Taylor Paul is winner and we are going to have a great time here at SURFING being victorious. I am really excited about the future and having Taylor Paul being part of it every step of the way. As always, game on!”
Taylor is young and fresh but he has vision and vision is worth its weight in gold. Suck it experience. SURFING has Taylor Paul and SURFING will continue to be the hottest magazine ever. Even hotter than making out with a super model. —Chas Smith
