The issue includes a jaw-dropping spread of the rarely visited Turnagin Arm Tidal Bore in Alaska; plus the history of the Molokai crossing and how standup racing became a sport. The new 1.5-inch, expanded trim size makes the already stellar imagery that much more breath taking. "We’re pumped on SUP magazine’s new format and excited to be able to cover this exciting game with such a high-quality publication," says Editor Joe Carberry. "And standup paddling certainly lends itself to incredible imagery, which is at the heart of our mission."
Other articles in the winter installment include Italy’s standup renaissance, from Venetian canals to the island wilds of Tuscany and recommendations for 5 great winter standup paddling destinations.
"Readers and advertisers have been imploring us to expand our SUP brand, and we’re excited to have done just that," said Norb Garrett, SVP Group Publisher of ASG/Grind Networks. "We’ve fully committed ourselves to playing a key role in the fast-growing standup community by launching our SUPthemag.com website and moving the magazine to a quarterly frequency in 2011. We’ve also named Joe Carberry as SUP’s editor, and he has put together a true A-team of contributing editors, writers and photographers who will help us produce the sport’s premium media properties."
SUP magazine is sold at REI, EMS, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Hastings and 325 other specialty retail stores.
