"We’re very excited to be continuing our Make-A-Wish event," said SKATEBOARDER Editor Jaime Owens. "We’re looking forward to raising more money this year for such a great organization."

The event draws top professional skaters, local pros and enthusiasts to join together to raise funds that will help grant wishes for children with life-threatening diseases. 25 invited skaters from teams including Real, Girl, Flip, Vans, Emerica, Nike and Zero will face off in a world-class contest judged by the skaters themselves.

Last year’s event, held for the first time in Stoner Park, saw over 45 professional and amateur skaters turn out including top names such as Eric Koston, Heath Kirchart, Mike Carroll, Vincent Alvarez, Dustin Dollin, Josh Kalis, Alex Olson, David Gonzales, Matt Miller, Theotis Beasley and Raven Tershy, to name a few.

The event raised $7,500 in 2011, including $5,000 from the top three trick winners whose prize money was donated to the Foundation in their names, and an extra $2,500 unexpectedly thrown into the mix by skater Dustin Dollin. This year, the goal is to raise even more through net proceeds from the event.

Make-A-Wish families also participated including one special young recipient, Dylan Matheu, who was able to skate with all of the professional skaterboarders throughout the day.

"We are very excited to partner on this great event again this year. Because of our wonderful supporters, such as SKATEBOARDER Magazine, we are able to continue to grant wonderful wishes," said Brooke Dafesh, Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles Corporate Alliances Manager.

SKATEBOARDER would like to thank other event sponsors, Red Bull and Arnette. for helping to bring this event for a cause to fruition.

About Make-A-Wish Foundation® Greater Los Angeles

The Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation was formed in 1983. According to a 2011 study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed say a wish come true can affect their health outcomes. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences strengthen the entire family.
