FINAL DAYS TO VOTE IN THE POWDER AWARDS READER POLL

Visit powderawards.com to Cast a Vote Before Jan. 10, 2012

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (January 5, 2012) – Voting for the 12th annual Powder Awards Reader Poll concludes Jan. 10, 2012. The top 10 men and five women skiers in the world, as voted on by the fans, will be announced live Jan. 25, 2012 at the Powder Awards presented by Casio G’zOne Commando and Verizon at the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado, with a live webcast at powderawards.com.

“No other vote means as much to skiers as the Reader Poll. It’s more than just the hardware or a pay day on a skier’s incentive contract,” says Powder Editor Derek Taylor. “It’s validation that they are considered the best among their peers.”

To vote, fans simply visit the official website and type in the names of their favorite male and female skiers. For the 2012 Poll, voters will get the chance to win one of three GoPro HD HERO2 cameras if they accurately guess the 15 Poll winners in the order in which they finish.

On the big night, fans can view all of the action including the red carpet arrivals, behind-the-scenes mayhem and final results broadcast live at powderawards.com with all of their favorite skiers and other athletes and personalities in attendance.

Last year, Tom Wallisch unseated Seth Morrison in the men’s category while Ingrid Backstrom continued her five-year winning streak for the women. The votes are rolling in and the skiers and fans alike have started social media campaigns to generate votes via their Facebook and Twitter accounts. With the onslaught of social media, this year could be anyone’s game. (Follow Powder on Facebook facebook.com/powdermag and Twitter @PowderMagazine for updates as well.)

Now in its 12th year, the Powder Awards has grown to become one of the biggest nights in skiing, attracting a veritable who’s who of the industry-professional skiers, ski legends, ski film production crews, industry brands, media, non-affiliated celebrities (who may not even ski) and even the odd ski bum. And while the Powder Awards primarily highlights the best of the year’s ski films-like Movie of the Year and Best Male and Female Performance-the ceremony also acknowledge the readers’ favorites with the annual Reader Poll, giving fans the unique opportunity to participate in the process.

Special thanks to presenting sponsors Casio G’zOne Commando and Verizon, as well as supporting sponsors Kru82, GoPro, The North Face and Red Bull.
