BRAD LOVELL HONORED WITH DIRT SPORTS MAGAZINE’S DRIVER OF THE YEAR AT ANNUAL AWARDS EVENT
Dirt Sports Driver of the Year Issue on Newsstands Now
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., February 13, 2013 – The best off-road performances were announced and celebrated at the Oakley World Headquarters last night at the ninth annual Dirt Sports magazine Driver of the Year awards presented by Amsoil, and hosted by Fox Racing Shox, Stronghold Motorsports, Oakley, Azunia Tequila and GrindMedia.
Established in 2005, the awards honor the year’s best racers who have dominated the podium and achieved excellence throughout the year. The March issue of Dirt Sports, now on newsstands, features the 2012 winners, as well as the Baja 1000 45th Anniversary race coverage and Annual Safety Gear Guide.
This year, Dirt Sports presented the overall 2012 Driver of the Year honor to Brad Lovell. Lovell, a 36-year-old racer from Colorado Springs, Colo. earned the top honor for his amazing dual championships in two very different genres of off-road racing – both the TORC PRO Light Class and the rock racing Ultra4 series.
Also recognized at the awards presentation and in the March issue were fellow racers Robby Gordon as 2012 Desert Driver of the Year, RJ Anderson as 2012 Short Course Driver of the Year, and Luke McMillin, who was named as the magazine’s Rookie of the Year.
For the first time, the event was televised live on Roger Norman’s Dirt Live and broadcasted on www.score-international.com.
Guests attending the award festivities came from all areas of the country, including Germany, France and China, and enjoyed speeches and presentations by Roger Norman of SCORE/HDRA, Sal Fish who presented Luke McMillin the Rookie of the Year award, Matt Martelli of MadMedia who presented Robby Gordon the Desert Driver of the Year award, Walker Evans who presented RJ Anderson the Short Course Driver of the Year award, and Dave Cole of Ultra4 and Jeremy Meyer of Amsoil who presented Brad Lovell the Driver of the Year award.
The honorees received a custom-made Oakley TimeBomb II or Twelve Gauge watch specially engraved, and a customized Dirt Sports Oakley jacket.
“The Dirt Sports Driver of the Year awards represent those efforts that had the greatest impact on off-road motorsports during the 2012 racing season, and in 2012, Brad Lovell proved to be that guy,” said Jim Ryan, Group Publisher of Dirt Sports magazine, and MC of the night’s event.
