SURFER Art Director

Location: San Clemente, CA / Carlsbad (2015)

SURFER Magazine is looking for an experienced (non-manager) Art Director for our San Clemente, CA office (subject to relocation to Carlsbad office in 2015). SURFER has been the mirror to the surf lifestyle and culture for more than half a century.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for layout and design of all editorial content of a monthly magazine, as well as a newsstand-only special.
  • Layouts should sustain and evolve the look developed for that particular magazine.
  • The art director is responsible for editing photos and submitting them to our pre-press for processing. Approved and finalized files will be processed according to TEN’s guidelines. The art director will review final proofs and request color corrections if necessary.
  • Provide logos and other artwork when requested for marketing projects.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
  • BFA in Graphic Design or bachelor’s degree in Arts or equivalent knowledge base.
  • 4 to 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in magazine design, preferably with a monthly publication, is required. Should have thorough knowledge of prepress.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong Photoshop and InDesign skills are a must, plus a working knowledge of Illustrator. Must be willing to learn and apply the latest Photoshop techniques.
  • Attention to detail and basic layout fundamentals are critical. Exceptionally detail orientated and deadline orientated.
  • Interest and exploration of current design trends is desired. Must have the ability to add a creative touch to layouts for a cutting edge, modern presentation.
  • Strong communications skills: must be able to collaborate with the editor and staff to create ideas for photo shoots, and art direct those photo shoots when possible.
  • Comfort and ease working well with others in a team environment
  • Proven track record of talent and innovation in design, utilizing various creative methods with an emphasis on the cutting edge of current design trends.
  • Interest in web and other digital media, such as iMags and app design is desired.
  • Must have the ability to deliver a product that resonates with the appropriate demographic.

Digital Programmatic Specialist

Location: El Segundo, New York, Irvine or San Clemente

Source Interlink Media is seeking a Digital Programmatic Specialist for either the El Segundo, New York, Irvine or San Clemente office. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional problem solver with the ability to think creatively.

  • Manage all existing programmatic demand partners (contracts, SIM products, individual campaigns, etc.)
  • Optimize programmatic platforms and SIM products for maximum revenue generation
  • Conduct periodic evaluation of SIM RTB programs, identify new opportunities, and present recommendations for growth (i.e. new technologies, improved optimization, ad placement audits, etc.)
  • Serve as single point-of-contact for all internal and external RTB-related inquiries, and pass along all relevant data to appropriate stakeholders
  • Track the overall performance of RTB campaigns and serve as an escalation contact for investigating and discrepancies and campaign issues with programmatic demand partners

  • Snowboarder Magazine is currently looking for a photo intern to assist with studio photo shoots, image processing and archiving digital files. To be eligible, you must be able to receive school credit for the internship, which is non-paid and located in San Clemente, CA. This position will work directly with Ryan Hughes.
Functions and Responsibilities:

- Assisting in the onsite photo studio for portrait and product shoots.
- Processing photos for web (including animated gifs) and print using Light Room, Bridge, and Photoshop software.
- Archiving photos and magazines.
- Shipping and receiving of magazines and snowboarding gear.
- General office duties.
