Internships at GrindMedia
Location: San Clemente, CAINTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The intern program is designed to provide interested students with hands on experience in the publishing industry. Because today’s students may be tomorrow’s leaders, our desire is to provide these individuals with a meaningful and educational experience. We offer an array of opportunities in various departments ranging from Photography, Journalism, Graphic Design, and more. Read the general requirements listed below.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be currently registered at an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution (Junior College is acceptable)
- Must submit a letter on official letterhead from your school stating that they will receive academic credit for participation
- Must be 18 years of age or older
PHOTO DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP – BIKE / POWDER / PAVED MAGAZINES
Summary
- Use of photo editing platforms and pre-press logistics
- Assisting studio photographer
- Photo research
- Maintain seasonal photo file storage and backups
- General communication with extensive list of contributing photographers
- General assistance to Creative Director and Art Director in all aspects of visual presentation of magazine
Length of Internship
- Minimum 3 month internships accepted on an ongoing basis
EDITORIAL DEPARTMENT INTERNSHIP – POWDER MAGAZINE
Summary
- Powder, the Skier’s Magazine, has openings for internships this summer, and another for the fall. Qualified applicants should have a solid background in journalism, writing and skiing. Also, applicants must be able to obtain school credit for the internship, which is non-paid and located in southern Orange County, Calif. The summer program runs from early May until the middle of August, while the fall session goes from September to December.
- If selected, you will work as a part of our editorial team in producing the most irreverent ski magazine in the business. Many of our interns move on into successful careers in the outdoor publishing industry.

Online Editor – POWDER Magazine
Location: San Clemente, CAOverview:
Powder magazine, The Skier’s Magazine, is hiring for a web savvy journalist to become the new online editor that possesses the below skills
Job Summary:
- AP-style journalism background desired. Know how to report on variety of subjects and write AP-style and longer narrative pieces for Powder.com on deadline.
- Assign, develop, edit, and upload original online content. Original content is posted to Powder.com daily.
- Collaborate closely with editorial team to integrate magazine content to Powder.com, Powder digital properties (iPad, iPhone, etc.), and future digital projects.
- Manage all web-based initiatives and execute assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Collaborate closely with marketing team to ensure brand events are represented online.
- Contribute ideas and concepts to grow site page views and uniques.
- Manage Powder’s social media channels through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, etc.
Skill Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of Word Press and HTML required.
- Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Video editing and Flash skills are required.
- Excellent creative/aesthetic judgment combined with the ability to take ideas from multiple sources and form a cohesive, compelling, creative result.
- Experience in design, typography, and interactive interface design.
- Self motivator capable of producing high quality work within strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understand this is not a 9-5 job. It is a lifestyle decision.

Web Producer – StupidVideos
Location: El Segundo, CAOverview:
We are looking for a Web Producer, based in our San Clemente, CA office. This position will collaborate with our StupidVideos team.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and pitch comedy content for licensing opportunities
- Will lead all efforts related to the daily posting of quality comedy content
- Ensure that all content for a site(s) is tagged correctly and conforms to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) guidelines
- Daily programming of new content across multiple comedy destinations
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, multitasking and analytical skills necessary
- Ability to learn quickly and meet tight deadlines
- Using internally developed programs to organize and publish media
- Identify key points of interest related to published media and implement processes to increase viewership
- Working with partner editorial teams to coordinate promotions and identify future opportunities
- Ensuring that all content on the site complies with family friendly content guidelines.
- Occasionally designing Sales Decks, Media Kits, Online Contests, Microsites, coordinating deadlines related to original video production, etc
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Producers
- Outreach to the web comedy community
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 2 years experience working in web focused entertainment, professional writing, comedy entertainment or working within creative teams
- Experience in the comedy field is a huge plus
- Intermediate knowledge of current editing programs as well as proper techniques and problem solving.
- Experience with the following programs: Photoshop required, Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro required, Illustrator, Motion and After Effects experience preferred.
- Experience managing small teams
- Experience with video codecs and associated encoding programs required
- MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) experience preferred
- HTML knowledge and general computer literacy is a plus
- Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Web Savvy and well versed in popular culture, including memes & meta humor, film, music, comedy, urban legends, mythology and written alien languages
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Able to work outside of business hours as needed
Web Developer
Location: San Clemente, CAOverview:
We are looking for an innovative Web Developer to help us build cutting edge web applications. This full-time position will be based in San Clemente, CA and will report directly to the Director of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain high-availability web applications
- Collaborate on new software architectures, appropriately introducing new technologies
- Provide consistent technical leadership, anticipating and resolving potential roadblocks throughout the entire software development lifecycle
- Optimize code scalability through efficient coding techniques and use of frameworks
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or related technical field
- 3-5+ years experience building high-availability web applications, preferably using LAMP
- Expert knowledge of OO design patterns, MVC frameworks
- Competence employing traffic optimization techniques (sharding, caching, etc.)
- Innovative, detail-oriented problem solvers
- Ability to multi-task and collaborate with a small, diverse set of developers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
